Now that Francisco Lindor officially is getting surgery for the fracture to his hamate, let's take a look at who can replace the Mets All-Star shortstop in his absence.

Ronny Mauricio - The most likely option that can reduce the loss of Lindor’s offense and defense. Yes, Mauricio looked lost at the plate against some elite pitching last season. Despitethose flailing strikeouts, there were memories of the game-tying home run in San Diego or the moonshot in Colorado. Mauricio should have been in the minors last season, but was kept on the big league roster for procedural reasons and long-term team control. Can he produce in a small sample size similarly to what got him a big league shot? His ‘23 AAA slash line was .292/.346/.506. Let’s also not forget those smooth hands that we saw at third base, which produced 5 OAA (Better than Matt Chapman). As mentioned on the podcast, Mauricio should only don a Mets uniform this year if he gets everyday reps; he should hone his skills in Syracuse. An emergency replacement for Lindor allows him to get those reps. Who knows, we might have our first 2026 debate if he actually produces and has to be sent down upon Lindor’s return.
