Are the Upcoming Starts by the Young Righty Key to the Deadline?
Blade Tidwell was the star in what was about a “must-win” as it gets for the Mets on July 2nd. The vibes post doubleheader nightcap were better at Citi Field after another lackluster performance by the home team in the opener. There is still a ton to be concerned about, but here are some thoughts to ponder heading into the 4th of July weekend.
Who is Blade Tidwell? Congrats on the first big league win. Right now, however, he’s pitching depth to help the Mets get through a tough stretch where they enter each game knowing they will need 12-15 outs from the bullpen. The four-pitch mix and frame have made you wonder if he’s a diamond in the rough, but going into the Wednesday contest, he’s been dropping on the prospect ranking list and future with the organization over the last three years. That doesn’t matter right now, as the Mets needed quality and length at the moment and received both.
